Rippers

This program is for athletes 12 years and older who are not driven to compete nor really want to train in depth in snow safety yet are still seeking to improve and ski all the terrain at the Lake Louise Ski Resort, with the goal of becoming a life-long skier. The structure will be similar to our competitive programs, without the competitive pressure. Technical skill development will be the primary focus for this program but having fun and getting athletes stoked and ready to work up to more difficult/challenging terrain is a priority. We would be open to having athletes who are interested in trying a competition try one when the coaching staff see a fit.

Freeride Comp

This program is tailored to athletes 12 year and older who want to compete but need flexibility for school or other interests. This is a great progression for athletes who have worked through our Junior Rippers or Rippers non-competitive programs and would like to pursue more focused training for competitions or back country, touring and snow safety. For either pathway, this program will focus on the development of technical skiing skills, while ensuring that athletes have fun. Development of competition skills includes learning about line choice, control, style and technique.
The first 4 weeks on snow will be focused on technical skill development on groomers and in controlled environments. For athletes to take full advantage of this training it is essential that skis be well tuned. This will be a building block to allow athletes to push themselves in the later part of the season entering the competitive block.
By competing, athletes compile IFSA ranking points, approximately the top 20 athletes in each region qualify for the IFSA NORAMS Championship in the spring. The top 2 results from 3 National events are taken. For Regional events, only the best two results of the first 3 events will be taken for overall ranking.
A slackcountry or back country hut trip may be available to athletes based on ability, fitness, demand and other prerequisites.
